Unity runtime, packages and bought assets
Sell Unity project files: what the Unity licences allow
Updated
A Unity project is your scenes and scripts plus Unity's runtime, its packages and any Asset Store purchases. Only the first part is yours to hand over as it stands.
- Separate your own scenes and scripts from Unity's runtime and packages
- Take out or clear every Asset Store purchase
- Offer what is left: the parts the studio made
The runtime and packages stay inside the game
| Unity licence | How its code may be distributed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Editor software terms | The Unity Runtime solely as embedded or incorporated into your projects | What engine licences let leave a studio |
| Package distribution licence | Only as binaries integrated with your project content | What engine licences let leave a studio |
Neither travels as source to a buyer.
Asset Store purchases and clause (g)
- An Asset Store asset may be distributed only as incorporated and embedded in the licensed product.
- Clause (g) bars using the store or its assets to train an artificial intelligence or machine learning model without express consent from the provider or Unity.

Strip bought assets before a project goes to an AI buyer, or ask the provider.
Selling the parts you made
- Unity Asset Store, for providers
- Unity obtains no right, title or interest from a provider, and pays seventy percent of the sales price on assets a studio lists itself.
- Mercor, game studios
- Its listing names asset-store or template code as a poor fit for its buyers.
